Schuller, a member of the Chilean, Spanish, Colombian and Belgian Academies has won major science and TV prizes including the American Physical Society (Wheatley, Adler), Materials Research Society (Medal, Somiya), Department of Energy (Lawrence), Department of Defense (Vannevar Bush), European (Humboldt and Lise Meitner) and Regional Emmy. His more than 580 papers and 20 patents established the field of metallic superlattices key for the start of Spintronics, determined the structure of YBCO high temperature superconductor, and established the phenomenology of many hybrid heterostructures.  His recent basic research on the properties of quantum-materials has direct relevance for Neuromorphic Computing and Sensors.  He was recently elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

1.      US-Department of Energy-Outstanding Accomplishment in Solid State Physics – 1988For the determination of the structure of the high temperature ceramic oxide YBa2Cu3O7.2.      American Physical Society-Wheatley Award – 1999For his dedication to the development of physics at the frontier level in Latin America, China and India; for his efforts in organizing international events and building strong bridges to connect people, ideas, and resources from around the world; and for his results as an imaginative physicist and a close collaborator with young physicists in developing countries. 3.      Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung-Forschungspreis – 2002In recognition of his numerous research accomplishments in the field of metallic superlattices, which he initiated.
